Heil received
the first ever ‘Live Sound Pioneer Award’ at the Audio
Engineering Society Convention for many of the technologies still
used by today’s performing groups. Bob Heil was the International
Amateur Radio Operator of the Year in 1982, an award held by Barry
Goldwater the year before. Heil Sound was also an early installer
of the large satellite dishes led by Bob’s love for ham
radio and his never ending experimental side. Heil Sound was the
1989 ‘USA Satellite Dealer Of The Year’ and was on
the original test team for today’s 18 “RCA DirecTV
dish system? Heil installed the very first DSS System which was
installed at the St. Louis office of Bob Costas.
Since 1977 Bob Heil has been presenting his ‘High
Tech Heil’ reports on KMOX-CBS radio and does various high
tech reports on the local St Louis television stations. Heil Sound
was one of the first companies to design and install Custom Home
theatre systems nationally and does many special designs in home
in the St Louis area with nearly 3,000 installations under his
belt.
As an author of five books, consultant, teacher and lecturer,
Bob is in constant demand to teach home theatre and audio technologies
at various shows and conventions. He has also taught classes at
George Lucas’ SkyWalker Ranch, CES electronics shows in
Las Vegas, Trebas Recording Institute in Toronto as well as a
regular instructor at many international home theatre and satellite
shows.
Heil Sound, Ltd. In Fairview Heights has become the largest
manufacturer of microphones and audio products for the amateur
radio industry with over 100 dealers around the globe. Tens of
thousands of ‘hams’ – world wide – use
the Heil products which is designed and built in Fairview Heights,
Ill., located in the St. Louis metro area.
Heil Sound, Ltd. has also entered the commercial broadcast
industry with their introduction of the Heil PROLINE products.

raised the bar on dynamic microphone technology and is winning
the heart and ears of many commercial broadcasters and live sound
engineers
Bob Heil is also a leading design engineer and installer
for church and school sound systems, helping to solve the many
problems that plague institutional systems. Bob has two daughters
and one stepson. Bob lives with his wife and business confidant,
Sarah in Belleville, Il. and Long Beach, Ca. When he is not playing
the Wurlitzer at the Fox, climbing towers, soldering a project
or talking to his amateur radio friends he can be found enjoying
some of his classic car collection – mainly 50’s Thunderbirds.
